TWUC offers $2,500 prize: deadline looms

The Writers’ Union of Canada is offering $2,500 as the first prize for an unpublished author’s short story. Less than a week is left before the deadline. Here are the main details for this competition.

Prizes: First Prize is $2,500 and the winner and finalists all will have their work submitted to three publishers for consideration.

Eligibility: The competition is open to all Canadian citizen or landed immigrant writers who have not been published in book format in any genre and who do not have a contract with a book publisher.

Rules: TWUC wants your original nonfiction or fiction prose up to 2,500 words. Multiple submissions are welcome.

Entry fee: is $29 as a cheque or money order made out to The Writers’ Union of Canada. You can send more than one entry but you need a separate payment for each.

Entries must be submitted on hard copy 8.5”X11” format only, double spaced, printed on one side only, with numbered pages — no staples; a separate cover letter with full name, address, phone number and e-mail address, number of pages, whether the entry is fiction or non-fiction, and name of entrant on each numbered page.

Deadline: All entries must be postmarked on or before March 1, 2013.
